How Giving 10% of Your Money away will make you a millionaire!

Holy Bible and money

Wait…I know what your thinking. 10%? Brad must be talking about tithing and boring Christian hokey pokey principles. How can giving money away possible help me where I’m at? Maybe you are in debt. Maybe at the end of every week your paycheck is gone. Maybe you don’t believe in God or you are not a Christian. I’m not a mission to convert but to educate and demonstrate. Giving 10% is possibly the single most powerful thing you can do to master money. There is a practical and spiritual reason for this. This article will be split into 3 main sections: The Practical, The Spiritual, and Examples of Millionaire Givers. Some if these examples may surprise you. You will find that in all walks of life, some of the most successful people were givers. Inspiration for this post include the following books, and I encourage you to delve deeper into each book for a fuller understanding and appreciation of the “giving” concept:

  1. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams” – Deepak Chopra
  2. “The Bible” – God
  3. Multiple Streams of Income: How to Generate a Lifetime of Unlimited Wealth!” – Robert Allen
  4. The Richest Man Who Ever Lived: King Solomon’s Secrets to Success, Wealth, and Happiness” – Steven Scott
  5. The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity: A Simple Guide to Unlimited Abundance” – Edwene Gaines

The Practical:

Are you the master of your money, or does your money master you? Do you give, and if not, why? Is it YOUR money after all, right? If so, does it possess you or do you possess it? Being a true master means you are in control. If you are unable to give money, then you lack mastery and control of money. Doing something that you don’t want to do initially shows courage, self control, and builds character. A lot of times in life, not liking something, but doing it anyway turns out to be the greatest character building exercise we could ever experience. Furthermore, it teaches us responsibility. The responsibility to give 10% is self imposed, and is all the greater in its sacrifice and self teaching. You are doing it on your own initiative. No one is forcing you.

One of the four spiritual laws that govern prosperity, as detailed by Edwene Gaines states:

“You must tithe 10% of all that you receive to the person, place, or institution where you have received your spiritual food. Putting God first in your finances is a dynamic act of courage. When you do so, your faith and your ability to stretch yourself, to move forward, and to expand your vision of yourself and your life increases a hundred-fold.”

Did you get that? I know it is a spiritual law, but your vision of both YOURSELF and YOUR life increases 100x. How is this possible? Well, besides the benefits of Mastering Money and building awesome personality and character traits…GIVING FEELS GOOD. You will have a direct impact on a people’s lives. You will help in the spread of education or knowledge. You are in charge of who/what/when and how much you give. And that FEELS GREAT. YOU are the master, and YOU bestow blessings on other people. You do this because are stepping out on faith, but also because at the end of the day, it builds perhaps the greatest character trait of all: Humbleness. The destroyer of ego’s and prideful natures.

The Spiritual:

A common theme you will find in the spiritual realm is that there are universal spiritual laws governing your life and money. Steve Scott’s book, “The Richest Man Who Ever Lived,” puts it best: “Just as there are physical laws that govern the universe, there are laws of living that are just as sure and true. It doesn’t matter if you love them or hate them, they still exist, and they will govern your life.”

Deepak Chopra likens money to a river. It flows. It is energy. The word currency actually has its roots in the Latin word, “currere,” which means “to run” or to flow. And “like a river, money must keep flowing, otherwise it begins to stagnate, to clog, to suffocate and strangle its very own life force. Circulation keeps it alive and vital.” Deepak goes on to suggest that every relationship in life is give and take. And if you think about this, he is exactly right. Life is a process of giving and taking on every level. Think of the trees and the plants. They give oxygen in exchange for carbon dioxide. A seed gives its intelligence to the soil that surrounds it. The Earth gives it water and the Sun gives it light. The seed grows into a thousand forests. Forests give shade as well as animal and human shelter. As you can see, this thought expression can continue into the infinite in either direction. The point is that money is also as profound as the seed. It is something that you can give… something that you can add to the flow of the river to help move things along. He likens the entire concept to “The Law of Giving,” in which you give the thing you want more of. What flows out will flow in. The more you give, the more you will get.

Nothing says a Christian teaching like a few hard hitting scriptures, so here goes (quotes from NLV and KJV):

  1. “Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything.” Proverbs 11:24
  2. “Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give!” – Proverbs 21:26
  3. “When Jesus heard his answer, he said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done. Sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” – Luke 18:22
  4. “You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” – Acts 20:35
  5. “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” – Malachi 3:10

One of the most interesting quotes is the last one. In it, God CHALLENGES you to out give him. He says “prove me” or in other words “test me” or “I dare you!”. I was shocked when I first saw this while reading “The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity” by Edwene Gaines. In this scripture, Edwene states “I think this must be the only place in the Bible where God gives us the opportunity (to prove him). After all, the Bible doesn’t attempt to prove God. It doesn’t start out arguing and explaining why you should believe that God exists. Instead, it assumes that you will believe. It simply starts out, ‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.’ You are supposed to accept that fact completely. without argument. And certainly not without a chance to put God to a true test. But Malachi 3:10 says that we can prove God.” This is really incredible isn’t it? Did you know that there was such a scripture in the Bible?

Edwene isn’t the only one that speaks the truth of these spiritual principles. Emerson put it another way, “You cannot out give God.”

What do you think? Are you ready to give it a try and prove God? Accept His challenge and see what happens!
